Mobile Veterinary Care

Welcome to the only mobile clinic in the Bow Valley and even within 1,000km in Alberta! Operating out of perhaps the most technologically equipped ambulance in Western Canada, we bring more than your average clinic and directly to your door which is invaluable for many.  The Bow Valley is full of visionaries and as pet guardians with local ownership we have focused to meet the needs of your most precious companions.  Call us as we look forward to caring for all your pets needs from the comfort and security of your own home.

Why Mobile Care

With the unleashing of COVID-19 on the world, corporate models have often restructured and reset expectations to the detriment of client and patient care.  Often people have been required to wait in their car outside the clinic while their pet is examined or treated behind closed doors.  In contrast we have adopted a community based approach and with integrated mobile, the gold standard of care can be given in your driveway while safely maintaining physical distancing, sanitization, and other safety protocols as needed.  Diagnostic X-rays, bloodwork, and ultrasound can all be performed with the results readily available.  Although the convenience of continuing your home routine during an exam or diagnostic workup is hard to beat, the greatest benefit is the physical health and emotional wellbeing of your companion.

To most people the joys of caring for life’s best companions are centred on a mutual trust and bond which is not only wonderful to us but also crucial to our companion’s well being.  Because of this, many owners may feel they are betraying their pets when leaving them in a stressful strange environment.  We address this in several ways.  We bring the diagnostics to you so we can assess and help patients where they are most comfortable - at home.

With our Mobile Care Unit - your pet receives the doctor’s full focused attention. They are not in a clinic with other patients dividing the doctor’s time. There are no strange dogs around or  barking in the waiting room causing them increased stress.  Our doctor, Dr. Nathan Bernadet, is the first Fear Free Certified veterinarian in the valley.  Providing exams that are more effective in that the pet’s behaviour is less influenced by stress and anxiety can cause their temperature to rise and make it challenging to correctly diagnose symptoms.

At Mountain Mobile we are truly dedicated to your best friend, from our home to yours.

The Mobile Care Facility

When searching for an appropriate vehicle we started with the same standard applied to human medicine and looked at what Alberta Health Services uses.  Hence the idea of an ambulance was born.  This vehicle is technically equipped yet small enough to provide curbside service within the tightly knit communities of the Bow Valley.  Numerous customized upgrades were installed including a fully integrated lab, digital radiography, and the highest standard in ultrasound equipment.  The compact blood work machines were originally designed by NASA for the space station.  Attention was given to every design detail to assure the best possible care and VIP treatment for all our patients.    A key feature is cloud based files and records so that patient history, X-rays, ultrasound images, and blood work results are thorough and readily accessible.

To address COVID-19, our protocols are adapted to curb side to ensure the protection of you and your pet.  In the new normal, exams can also be conducted in your presence in the patient’s most comfortable home surroundings.

X-rays Curbside

Mountain Mobile Veterinary Care is proud to provide extensive diagnostic resources to aid in your pets health - at your door.  We have invested in specialized equipment to bring the best imaging to you.  By doing this you can avoid the stress of bringing your furry friend to a strange location. Fear free and hands free techniques will be used to further make this experience as relaxing as possible.

X rays are a great non-invasive way of imaging internal structures from lungs to gas pockets in the bowels to bone and joint issues.  Using digital x-rays allows our animal health team to diagnose internal injuries, fractures and many other issues that may not present during an exam.

We use x-rays alone or in conjunction with other diagnostic tools to aid us in providing you with the most in depth information and your pet the best care.

To avoid blurry images, pets need to remain completely still while an x-ray is taken.  In some cases, we may need to sedate your pet.  If you have questions about what to expect during your pets procedure don't hesitate to ask.

Ultrasound Curbside

An ultrasound is another non-invasive diagnostic tool  and one of the best ways of assessing internal organs and structures using high frequency sound waves.

Ultrasound is dependent on the quality of the equipment and the technical and medical skills of the doctor.  Mountain Veterinary Care brings together the gold standard in veterinary imaging machines with doctors experienced in internal and emergency medicine and with advanced ultrasound training.

Full Mobile Laboratory

We have fully equipped our Mobile Clinic with a full laboratory.  This allows us to maintain and provide the best care for your loved one at your door and you do not have additional delays in treatment.

We do diagnostic testing both in our mobile clinic and with an outside lab so we can provide results quickly and accurately.  The ability to obtain rapid results the same day is especially valuable for ill or injured animals.  Our in-house testing laboratory is equipped to perform:

  • CBC (Complete Blood Counts)

  • Blood Chemistry

  • Urinalysis

  • Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus testing

  • Heart marker testing

Sedation Procedures

Although major surgeries are best done in the hospital, minor procedures like many wound repairs and stitches, external biopsies, as well as diagnostic tests requiring sedation can be performed curbside in the ambulance.  We have oxygen on hand if needed and full monitoring equipment.  For many dogs this can be invaluable being able to fall asleep and wake up in familiar surroundings.

End of Life Care

At the most heart wrenching time in a pet’s life we are here for your pet and family.  Saying goodbye to a cherished family member can be very difficult and our goal is to make this transition as comfortable and stress free as possible for your pet.

With our mobile service, we are able to come into your home to make this transition as peaceful and comforting as possible being in familiar surroundings with family and friends.  We are honored to be in your home and will maintain their dignity and respect.
